IPC 171-I in BNS: Section 177
Failure to keep election accounts
IPC
171-I
BNS
177
Under the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Section 171-I dealt with “Failure to keep election accounts”. Since the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 came into force on 1 July 2024, the corresponding provision is Section 177 of the BNS. The Sanhita renumbered the whole code, so the old IPC number does not carry over — this is the official mapping.
