What a Case Brief contains
The brief lists the matter title (parties), the client’s name, role (accused, complainant, petitioner, respondent) and phone, the FIR/crime number with police station, district and date, the offence sections (BNS/BNSS), the court and stage, the next hearing date, and the brief facts. It is a working summary the advocate prepares — a quick reference for the file, not a formal pleading.
Case brief vs FIR copy vs case diary
These are three different things. The Case Brief here is the advocate’s own working summary. The FIR copy is the official First Information Report — a public document you download from the police or eCourts portal, then keep in the file (this tool does not fetch it). The case diary is the police’s confidential investigation record under Section 192 of the BNSS (earlier Section 172 CrPC) — it is not a public document and no one can supply it to a party. Keep these distinct: this tool creates the brief, links you to the official source for the FIR, and never claims to be either official document.
