BNS chapter

Chapter 3 — Offences against the body

This chapter includes offences relating to homicide, hurt, assault, kidnapping, and sexual offences under the BNS.

Body offences in the new code

Chapter 3 covers the most serious offences against the person, including murder, hurt, assault, kidnapping, and sexual violence. In the BNS, these offences are grouped around harm to the body and the consequences are framed with modern language and punishment formats.

What this means for IPC mappings

Many familiar IPC offences in this chapter — like IPC 302, 376, 420 and 498A — now appear as BNS sections with different numbering and slightly updated definitions. Chapter 3 helps you find the right BNS section for offences that used to be listed under the IPC body-offence chapters.
